The Sun must burn
A setting for SATB of stanzas 4 & 6 of an untitled poem found in Traherne’s Commentaries of Heaven, in the chapter entitled Activity.
The SUN must burn, and cannot chuse but shine;
Remove its Rays,
Remove it all. It doth it self refine,
Promote, Delight, Exalt, and Clothe with Prais,
It Crowns it self by shedding forth its Rays.
Just so is Man. He needs must burning shine,
His life is Love
To Live that Life His Soul was made Divine;
Who cannot chuse but like the Sun above,
Be burning still, and som thing needs must love.

The cross is....the Hous of Wisdom (and) the Throne of Lov (I, 58)
There we enter....the Heart of the Univers (I, 56)
There we may see a Man Loving all the World, and a GOD Dying for Mankind (I, 59)
There we may see....all Mysteries at once couched together and Explained (I, 59)
It is a well of Life beneath in which we may see the face of Heaven abov (I, 59)

They are the Ornaments of Time....
The Days of Heaven seen upon Earth.
Wherein we....come from our Shops to our Saviors Throne.
(And) from...our Vineyards to the Wine of Angels.
(They are the) Market Days of Heaven.
Appointed Seasons, wherin GOD keepeth Open Hous.
(We come) from Caring for our Children,
to be the Sons of God.
