Shadows in the Water

A setting for high voice and piano of Thomas Traherne’s poem with the same title.

The work was composed between August 1978 and May 1979 and presented to Sir Peter Pears as a 69th birthday present. The first performance was given at the Aldeburgh Festival on 11th June 1980 by Sir Peter with Steuart Bedford (piano).
